#Ip man 3 near me movie
The movie itself makes it a direct point to show Japanese inferiority, think of the Japanese General's second in command. Bruce Lee made real feats seem impossible and amazing, Ip Man makes impossible feats seem easy and common.Įdit: Yes the setting was during the occupation, but I don't believe that's relevant.

The invader spins and flies through the air in a clearly Hollywood way, hits from Ip send his opponent flying, which is countered by simply back flipping and spinning after catching himself with a single hand. I'm on my phone, so I can't link the video, but re-watch Ip's fight against the foreign fighting master. American propaganda in WWII even made the distinction between their Chinese allies and the Japanese enemy (albeit in a misguided and equally racist way). Many may not see the difference, but as a Korean, I can rather clearly tell apart a Korean from someone Chinese or Japanese. Or the Nazis, undeniably racist, simply because their definition of the perfect race was so specific. On racism, I would point out that though Asian nationalities seem very similar, think of the Irish, and how much other whites hated them. I was expecting Ip to realize his mistakes and pay more attention to his son, but at the end of the movie, Ip's wife makes a sudden realization that she shouldn't have been complaining as much, and in true 50's woman fashion, "should have been a better wife." Ip himself did become a better father, but they still refused to acknowledge his wife's very valid point. Ip's wife went through a subplot in which at the beginning of the movie, she was upset that Ip had been neglecting his son to "obsess" over fighting. On character development, I wasn't expecting a fantastic and in depth character, mostly surprised that people were contending that he was well developed.
